acupuncture for addiction

While studying for my Masters in Addiction Studies in Dublin  I took evening classes for a certificate in Ear acupuncture for detoxification.

During training I saw the profound effects ear acupuncture had on the people I treated who were dealing with substance addictions.

This was one of the reasons it went on to study acupuncture full time at a leading institute of Oriental Medicine in Canada where I graduated with honours.

Since then I've treated many clients with acupuncture for addiction and found that it significantly helps people return to wellness during every stage of their recovery.

My clients have found that they experienced relief of physiological withdrawal symptoms (such as cravings, loss of appetite, palpitations, lethargy and headaches) and of the more psychological symptoms (such as anxiety, fear and agitation).

Acupuncture helps individuals with substance and behavioural addiction strengthen their will power and return to a state of mental and physical equilibrium.

As such, it really is a wonderful tool in helping people to avoid relapse.

Since the effectiveness of ear acupuncture detox procedures was discovered in the 1970’s, thousands of detoxification programmes have been implemented in addiction treatment centres worldwide.

The standard approach used in acute detox situations involves the insertion of the same grouping of approximately 5 tiny needles per outer ear and treatments typically take place in a group setting for 45 minutes.

This standardised ear acupuncture approach is cost effective and studies indicate that it has great therapeutic benefit in stabilising people at the initial stages of withdrawal from chronic problem substance use.

However the full Traditional Chinese Medicine intervention is regarded as the most effective acupuncture method to advance the rehabilitation process once the person has moved out of the addiction cycle.

At this point individualised diagnosis and conventional full body acupuncture has been found to be more effective than standardised ear acupuncture treatment procedures alone.

During this time, it's still recommended combining acupuncture with other conventional treatment modalities, such as counselling, to fully support long-term recovery.

I offers both ear and full body acupuncture for a range of addictions, from those involving substances such as alcohol, cocaine, etc. to the behavioural addictions, including gambling and compulsive eating and all Information given is kept strictly confidential.
